Silva’s family are not just pioneers, but a role model in the Uruguayan afro-descendant culture. They are in charge of showing their cultural values to the world and not letting the candombe tradition fade away. Having an internal hierarchy-like structure not only in the family, but also in “Barrio Sur” (South-side neighborhood) Waldemar “Cachila” Silva is a respected leader who must transfer his mandate to his sons.
